Clearing the Land

When we found our piece of property a couple years ago, it was completely tree covered.  We worked hard with our builders to cut as few trees down as possible- just enough for the earth moving equipment to put in the foundation and a small lawn.

As we mature with the property, any additions first require clearing the land.  Right along side the house and backyard is a beautiful semi-flat area that has incredibly rich soil basically free of rocks.  Both the plus and the minus is that it's covered in brambles, weed trees, vines, stumps, and piles of fallen trees.  The pro in that is there is nothing worth preserving- it's a perfect spot to "clean up."  The downside is we have to get rid of the brambles, weed trees, vines, stumps and piles of fallen trees.

The green is the lawn.  To the left is a slight rise before it goes flat.  The flat area will be the new garden.

The large and tall tree to the right of the picture needs to come out.  All the small trees in the center of the picture need to come out.

More trees, brambles, and junk

During:

The excavator dug around the tree so that the tractor could pull the whole thing over which would also take out the root ball.  If we just cut the tree out, we'd have a large stump that would be nearly impossible to get out.

The stump was so big and heavy, it required both the tractor pulling and excavator pushing to get it up the hill.

Getting a lot clearer!
